1 여호와께로부터 예레미야에게 임한 말씀입니다.

1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

2 “일어나 토기장이의 집으로 내려가라. 내가 거기에서 내 말을 네게 들려주겠다.”

2 “Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear my words.”

3 그래서 내가 토기장이의 집으로 내려갔더니, 그가 물레 위에서 일을 하고 있었습니다.

3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and behold, he was making something on the wheels.

4 토기장이가 진흙으로 만들던 그릇이 그의 손에서 망가지자, 그는 자기 보기에 좋게 그것을 다시 다른 그릇으로 만들었습니다.

4 When the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

5 그때 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임했습니다.

5 Then the LORD’s word came to me, saying,

6 “이스라엘 족속아, 내가 이 토기장이처럼 너희에게 할 수 없겠느냐? 여호와의 말이다. 보라, 진흙이 토기장이의 손에 있는 것처럼, 이스라엘 족속아, 너희도 내 손에 있다.”

6 “House of Israel, can’t I do with you as this potter?” says the LORD. “Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, house of Israel.”
